In general, there is no way to prevent age-related cataracts. However, people with diabetes can reduce their risk of developing cataracts by controlling the level of blood sugar. To help prevent infection-related cataracts in the fetus, women should consult their doctor about the need for vaccines against rubella before becoming pregnant. Pregnant women should consult a health care professional regularly for prenatal care.
